AJ2013 Information SheetThis is the front two pages of the Jamboree Application Form.
Online applications are planned to open on 1 November 2011. Applicants will need to have a membership number to be able to start the application process. No number – no application. Scout service is based on the start date on MIS so please ensure that when Cubs go up to Scouts, that the paperwork transferring them is done promptly. Late applications will be blocked from 31 August 2012 on the website, however late applications must be received by NSW Contingent Office before that date so will need to be at Hume Region by 17 August 2012 to be processed.
Please note carefully the payment schedule and amounts, together with withdrawal fees. These are different to previous jamborees.
Unlike previous jamborees, there is no substitution for withdrawals.
Leaders are asked to only sign application forms for Youth Members that they honestly recommend to attend the Jamboree. If you can’t recommend them, send the forms through to me unsigned with a short note stating the reasons. I will then handle the problem. It is unreasonable for you and/or other Leaders to be expected to put up with a problem youth member at the Jamboree just to get a parent off your back. You should be telling parents NOW that youth member behaviour between now and the Jamboree will be monitored by the Leaders in your Group, District and Region, and that any slip-ups could/will affect the recommendation of the applicant. The recommendation can be withdrawn at any time up to arriving at the Jamboree. Likewise problems at the Jamboree will require the parents paying the cost of air fare home for the youth member AND return air fare for two accompanying Leaders OR a return air fare for the parent to come and pick them up.
AJ2013 Eligibility requirementsDear Leaders
It is getting around to that time when you should be thinking about promoting the next Jamboree to your Scouts and eligible Cub Scouts. Applications are usually due at Region Headquarters around the middle of March which is only 10 months away.
Like previous Jamborees there will be eligibility requirements set by Scouts Australia. It is a little early at this stage to advise what they are but it is expected that they will follow the same principles as the last Jamboree.
Scouts:
• Must be in the Scout Section. • Must be an invested Scout. • Must have the Pioneer Badge awarded before 30 September, 2012. • Must have camped under canvas as a Scout, for ten (10) nights, at least three (3) of them to be consecutive. Camping with family, schools, etc will not be considered. • Must not have attained the age of 15 years on or before first day of Jamboree (Date to be set). • Must be in the Scout Section for more than 12 months. If less than 12 months an assessment will be conducted by the relevant Regional Commissioner, Scouts or delegate. NB: Date of entry to the Scout Section recorded on the Branch record will be the Scout Section entry date. Any Scout, who has not attained their 11th birth date will be subject to assessment. • Must be recommended as suitable to attend by their Scout Leader, Group Leader, Regional Commissioner (Scouts), and approved by the Contingent Leader.
As soon as the actual eligibility requirements are known, I will send them to you.
Your Troop Programming should be aiming at getting Pioneer Badge passes this year where possible instead of next year at the last moment. It should also try to get as many of the 10 nights out of the way as possible and of course the 3 consecutive nights can be done at various Jamborettes coming up in Greater Western Region in June and the State Jamborette on October Long weekend.
Please keep an eye on ensuring your Group Leaders when appropriate, transfer Cub Scouts to the Scout Section at quarterly census time with correct dates of transfer because it is the date of transfer on Branch records that will be used as the Scout Section Entry Date. It was amazing how many had the transfer date as the date when Group Leaders got around to it instead of the actual transfer date.
Start promoting fund raising now as it is easier to raise money over a long period then it is over a short one.
e-Learning? Get the facts today!
There have been several enquiries about e-learning and some of the myths and rumors that accompany new initiatives. Margaret and her team are being pro-active and want to dispell the myths and rumors by getting the facts to the grass roots of Scouting. Please find attached a flyer regarding e-learning.
