Hume Region has plenty to celebrate this month, with major achievements across our Groups, outstanding volunteer recognition, and exciting growth in our youth sections. These milestones reflect the strength, resilience and dedication of our Scouting community.
Honouring Our Adult Recognition Award Recipients
A heartfelt congratulations to the 42 Hume Region volunteers who received Adult Recognition Awards this year. Your service, leadership and commitment continue to shape the lives of young people across our Region.
A special acknowledgement goes to Marion Leach and Joanne Tola, who were each awarded the Silver Kangaroo — one of the highest honours in Australian Scouting. Their decades of contribution, guidance and unwavering support have left a lasting legacy. Well done to both of these remarkable leaders.
1st Green Valley Celebrates 65 Years
A major milestone was reached as 1st Green Valley celebrated its 65th Anniversary with a wonderful event at Glenfield Activity Centre. The celebration was attended by Charishma Kaliyanda MP, State Member for Liverpool, who congratulated the Group on 65 years of service to young people and the broader community.
Charishma also presented the Group with a signed transcript of her speech delivered in the NSW Legislative Assembly on 5 August, formally recognising the Group's achievements, history and impact.
A special call-out goes to Joanne George, whose leadership and determination have guided 1st Green Valley from the brink of closure to becoming a vibrant, active and growing Group once again. Joanne's efforts embody the spirit of Scouting — resilient, community-minded and future-focused.
Scout Rally Success
Congratulations to Sam Vandenburgh and the Hume Team for running another highly successful Scout Rally this year. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, and we've heard that the bonfire was nothing short of spectacular. Events like these showcase the teamwork, creativity and energy that make Hume Region such a strong and connected Scouting community.
Growth in Moss Vale
Exciting things are happening in Moss Vale, with District Commissioner Sean Langshaw reporting that Moss Vale Joeys are thriving, now reaching 14 members. This growth highlights the enthusiasm of local families and the dedication of leaders who are building a fun, welcoming and adventurous Joey section.
Nepean District Welcomes a New District Commissioner
Congratulations to John Hallet on his appointment as District Commissioner for Nepean District. With John's appointment, Nepean now has a full District Team, marking an important milestone for the District's leadership and future direction. Well done to all involved in strengthening the team and supporting Scouting across Nepean.

Region Committees
To strengthen oversight, improve governance, and better prepare the Region for current and emerging financial, operational, and strategic challenges, Hume Region will restructure its committee framework.
The restructure will provide clearer accountability, greater transparency, less duplication, and more effective support for projects, property matters, camps, activity centres, and broader operational functions. We will invite people from across the Region to join the new committees, with further details to come soon.
O&I Handbook Update
The Operations and Information Handbook (O&I) is being rewritten in plain English and restructured to remove duplication and unnecessary content.
These achievements remind us of the strength of our volunteers, the passion of our youth, and the resilience of our Groups. Hume Region continues to grow, celebrate and support one another — ensuring Scouting remains a powerful force for good in our communities.
Thank you to every Leader, volunteer, youth member and supporter who contributes to the ongoing success of Scouting in Hume Region.
